German start-up Electric Brands has officially unveiled its modular EV platform in the form of the Xbus, a small and tall, light EV that delivers up to 200-kilometres a day of range with its own integrated solar panels and recuperative drives.

The Xbus was unveiled last week in an event that was streamed live on YouTube to thousands of viewers.

The modular EV boasts a total electric range with full battery and solar modules of 600-kilometres and comes in more than 10 modular and interchangeable bodies, transforming the vehicle into everything from a convertible to off-roader, station wagon, pick-up, or van and camping bus.

With an electronically controlled all-wheel drive and over 1,000Nm of torque, an app-controlled communication system, as well as optional extras such as air conditioning, digital exterior mirrors, the Xbus uses four, wheel hub electric motors that provide peak power of 56kW, or 75hp, and 15kW (20hp) of continuous power.

A max speed of 100km/h isn’t going to be winning any speed competitions, but at only 450-kilograms in weight – or 600-kilograms for a freight transport model – the Xbus fits into the L7e class.

Electric Brands already has a configurator for its Xbus up and running on its website, and prices start at €17,380 ($A27,500). Production is expected to start in mid-2022 and will initially be available to 600 dealers in Europe before expanding to 1,000 locations.

Those able and interested in the Xbus can also jump on board the company’s crowdfunding campaign, allowing private or institutional investors to invest as little as €1,000 to be a part of the vehicle’s hopeful success.

No word on its international availability, as of yet, however, Electric Brands explains on its website that its decision to launch its own crowdinvesting campaign is intended to “give the many interested people from all over the world the opportunity to become a part of the project and our success and also to earn money from it.”
