Faced with an incomplete home improvement project and possibly thousands of ever-increasing debts, a homeowner in McAllen found himself in a complicated situation.

Dalila Garza, a McAllen resident, said she is obligated to sign a 20-year monthly contract for solar panels, but her contractor has not yet completed the work.

Garza said that in August she signed a contract with DH Remodel Services Inc., a California-based company, to install solar panels on the roof of her home.

But after the first visit, Garza said that the technician never showed up to complete the installation, even after calling the company a few times.

After contacting the Better Business Bureau and the lawyer, Garza said that she was told that the contract she had signed was not good.

Although DH Remodel Services and Good Leap LLC (a financial company that signed with Garza to pay for solar panel projects) are listed as recognized BBB companies in California, they both filed complaints against them.

"If I stop paying," Garza said. "They want to lien on the house, so I have to pay."

Now, she hopes that someone in the community can provide her with legal advice to get rid of the agreement completely, or at least, she hopes that her own experience can be used as a lesson for others.
