According to local media Times of India, Tata Power Solar, a subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Tata Power, will reach an agreement with the government of Tamil Nadu to build a 4 GW vertically integrated solar cell and manufacturing department in the state. The plant It may be located in Gangaikondan near Tirunelveli.

The Times of India quoted a source from the Tamil Nadu government as saying: “Tata’s investment is about 30 billion rupees ($403 million), which can create 2,000 local jobs.”

Currently, Tata Power Solar operates a solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Bangalore. In April, it expanded the plant's cell and module manufacturing capacity and added a new production line to produce high-efficiency mono-crystalline PERC solar modules. 

The manufacturer has added 230 MW of mono PERC capacity to its 300 MW battery plant and 180 MW of half-cut single crystal PERC capacity to its existing 400 MW production facility. With this, it has reached a total capacity of 530 MW of batteries and 580 MW of components.
