Hand-held cordless cleaning tools are a cost-effective alternative to automated cleaning robots. The operation of automated cleaning robots is usually limited by the tilt of the panel.

Automated cleaning robot systems for solar panels are costly and threaten the employment of personnel in the operational phase of solar projects. An engineer in India has developed a hand-held dry cleaning tool that is cost-effective and can be easily operated by unskilled workers without training.

“The battery panel cleaning tool is powered by a 12V, 20Ah lithium battery, and a single charge can provide enough power to run the motor for 6 to 8 hours, and there is no need to clean about 800 solar panels with water every day,” tool developer Hariram Sharma told Photovoltaic Magazine.

Since the tool is manually operated, it can be used for any type of solar project, whether it is rooftop or ground installation.

The weight of the tool is less than 3 kg. It is equipped with a 12V permanent magnet DC motor with revolutions per minute (RPM) exceeding 200 revolutions. The brush is made of 340gsm soft woven microfiber cloth, which can clean the panel safely.
