The stroller manufacturer Radio Flyer commissioned Chicago-based Sunvest to build the array and optimized it with SolarEdge inverters.

Radio Flyer is a 100-year-old manufacturer of children's toy vehicles, and its goal is to make its operations 100% carbon neutral. In the latest step, the Chicago-based company hired Wisconsin solar installer Sunvest to build a fully integrated solar array on its four roofs.

The combined array is expected to pay back 2.4 years and is expected to save the company US$50,000 in energy costs each year. The system is designed to produce 737,000 kilowatt-hours per year using 375-watt Artes solar modules.

The 606 kW system is equipped with four SE 100K and one SE 66.6K three-phase SolarEdge inverters, as well as 808 SolarEdge power optimizers. The optimizer provides module-level monitoring to maximize energy production and reduce operating and maintenance costs through remote troubleshooting.

The inverter is equipped with the SafeDC function, which reduces the voltage to a safe level when needed, thereby protecting installation and maintenance personnel.

The device is expected to offset more than half of the electricity consumption at Radio Flyer headquarters.

In 2020, Sunvest installed 2.25 MW solar arrays at the Harley-Davidson Pilgrim Road powertrain operating facility in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Solar panels are part of the We Energies Solar Now program, which was the largest single rooftop solar panel system in Wisconsin at the time.
